Finance Minister announces Rs 1.70 lakh crore package to deal with corona’s impact

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced a special package worth Rs 1.7 lakh crore to provide relief to the Indian economy affected by the coronavirus. He also said that food will be arranged for the poor. Also, the money will be transferred to the account through DBT.

  • The finance minister also said that an insurance cover of Rs. 50 lakh is being given to doctors, paramedical staff who are protecting people from the coronavirus working in the health sector. These include Asha workers and Dr Asha workers, nurses and other medical staff. This will benefit 20 lakh, medical employees.
  • Moreover, the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana is mainly divided into two parts. First, 80 crore poor people will be covered under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. Under the scheme, five kilos of rice/rice will be used for the next three months. Wheat will be given for free. Also, one-kilo dal will be free for every family.
  • Under the scheme, farmers, Mgnrega, poor widow-pensioners-Diving, Jan Dhan Yojana-Ujjwala scheme, self-help group (women), organization sector workers (EPFO), construction workers will get the benefit of DBT in eight categories. A lump sum 1000 of Rs. 1000 will be given to the elderly, Divang and widow in two instalments. It will be given in the next three months. This amount will be different.
  • The benefit of Mgnrega scheme in the country is available to 5 crore households. Mgnrega wages have now been increased from 182 to Rs. 202. The Jan Dhan Yojana will be transferred to about 20 crore women’s account for the next 3 months through DBT for Rs 500 per month.
  • Earlier, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had made several announcements. He had announced the extension of the deadline for filing income tax returns, GST returns, Aadhaar-pan linking, etc. The date of an income tax return for the financial year 18-19 was extended till 30th June. The late payment was made from 12 per cent to 9 per cent. These reliefs are for those who are in a position not to be able to do it till 30th March.
