Department of Science & Technology constitutes Taskforce on Covid-19

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) is coordinating an effort to develop appropriate technology and build in India to deal with issues related to coronavirus. At the same time, new and developed solutions are more relevant so that the country can be prepared for the problems arising out of the Kovid-19 epidemic.

  • DST has set up a Covid-19 task force comprising R&D laboratories, academic institutions, startups and MSMEs to provide market-based solutions for providing diagnostic, testing, health care techniques and equipment.
  • These include masks and other protective materials. This includes developing internet-based solutions, artificial intelligence, for example, sanitizer, affordable kits for screening, ventilators and oxygenators, data analytics for tracking and monitoring, and internet-based solutions to prevent the spread of coronaviruses.
  • The Task Force includes DST, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), startup India and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) are comprised of representatives.
  • The task force is to identify the fastest Taramauraar startups, who may need financial or other help or need to demand or contact on an increasingly large scale, providing task force help.
  • As part of the mechanism being used for rapid development, manufacturing and relevant technology options, DST has already invited two separate proposals, including the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) and the Technology Development Board ( are under TDB). This can provide support for both new and existing solutions, scientific solutions and commercial manufacturing.
